Create polygons

Learn how to use the Circumscribed Polygon, Inscribed Polygon, and Edge Polygon commands to create different types of polygons in an active sketch in Fusion.

Create a Circumscribed Polygon

Create a polygon by placing the center point and specifying the radius of a circle to circumscribe the polygon around. The midpoint of each polygon edge lies on the circle.

  1. On the Sketch contextual tab, select Create > Polygon > Circumscribed Polygon circumscribed polygon icon.
  2. In the canvas, click to place the center point of the polygon.
  3. Specify the radius of the circumscribed circle.
  4. Press the Tab key to switch from radius to number of sides.
  5. Specify the number of sides.
  6. Drag the mouse pointer to orient the polygon.
  7. Click to place the polygon.
  8. Optional: Repeat steps 2-6 to create another polygon.
  9. Press Enter to complete the command.

The polygons, and any construction geometry, constraints, and dimensions that are added to them, display in the canvas.

Create an Inscribed Polygon

Create a polygon by placing the center point and specifying the radius of a circle to inscribe the polygon within. The points where the polygon edges intersect lie on the circle.

  1. On the Sketch contextual tab, select Create > Polygon > Inscribed Polygon inscribed polygon icon.
  2. In the canvas, click to place the center point of the polygon.
  3. Specify the radius of the inscribed circle.

Create an Edge Polygon

Create a polygon by defining an edge and orientation of the polygon.

  1. On the Sketch contextual tab, select Create > Polygon > Edge Polygon edge polygon icon.
  2. In the canvas, click to place the first point of an edge.
  3. Place the second point of the edge:
    • Specify the length of the edge.
    • Press the Tab key to switch from length to angle.
    • Specify the angle of the edge.
    • Press Enter or click to place the second point.
  4. Specify the number of sides.
  5. Drag the mouse pointer to orient the polygon on either side of the edge.
  6. Click to place the polygon.
  7. Optional: Repeat steps 2-6 to create another polygon.
  8. Press Enter to complete the command.

The polygons, and any construction geometry, constraints, and dimensions that are added to them, display in the canvas.
