Find underconstrained sketch geometry

When a sketch is not fully constrained, use Find Under-Constrained in the Sketch Palette to see a list of all under-constrained sketch entities in the active sketch. Select an item in the list to highlight that geometry and zoom to it on the canvas. You can add constraints or dimensions, delete geometry, or change what is visible while the command stays active; the list and sketch status update as you work.

The top of the Sketch Palette shows sketch status as Status: Under-Constrained or Status: Constrained. The status updates automatically as you add constraints and dimensions.

Find Under-Constrained geometry

  1. Create a sketch or edit an existing sketch that contains under-constrained geometry.

  2. In the Sketch Palette, review the sketch status at the top of the palette (Status: Under-Constrained or Status: Constrained).

  3. Click Find Under-Constrained find under-constrained icon.

A list of under-constrained sketch entities displays in the palette.

  4. In the list, select a sketch entity.

The geometry highlights on the canvas and the view zooms to it.

  5. (Optional) Click X on a row in the list to delete that under-constrained sketch entity.

X is not available for sketch points.

  6. (Optional) Hide fully constrained geometry to focus on sketch entities that still need constraints or dimensions.

  7. While Find Under-Constrained is active, add constraints or dimensions to define the highlighted geometry.

The list and sketch status update; when the sketch is fully constrained, Status: Constrained displays.

Update constraint status for the sketch

If constraint status looks out of date after edits, rerun fully constrained analysis for the whole sketch.

  1. With the sketch active, in the Sketch Palette, click Compute Sketch.

Fusion analyzes all geometry in the sketch and updates the constraint status for each sketch entity. The sketch status at the top of the palette refreshes (for example, Status: Constrained when the sketch is fully constrained).
