The Contour is a collection of polylines that illustrates the spatial variability of the input or output variables for an InfoWater Pro model. Contours can be generated for any numeric junction-based model input field or simulation result variable. They can also be displayed at any time before or after a simulation run and are saved as a permanent layer of an InfoWater Pro project.
Create, Edit, or Modify a Contour
To create, edit, or modify a Contour:
Source Tab
Element Source - Use this to specify the source of the contour data. Choose between the active facility and the active domain options. Only elements included in your element source specification will be included for plotting the contours.
Data Source - Specify the data source. You may choose between input data from the Database or solution data output values from the active output database. Depending on your chosen data source category appropriate data will be displayed in the Data Category section.
Time - Use the slider to specify the time for an EPS contour plot. This is applicable only for output data source of an EPS simulation.
Data Category - The different available data will be displayed in the Data Category depending on your data source specification. You may choose the appropriate data type here from which to plot contours.
Resolution - The number of line segments to be generated for every map unit. The higher the resolution, the greater the size of the contour shapefile, the longer it takes to zoom in and out and regenerate the display.
Smoothing Type - Choose the smoothing type. You may choose between Quadratic or Cubic. InfoWater Pro will use an appropriate curve type to plot your contour curves. Cubic means that the equations used in generating the contours will be raised to the third power while quadratic dictates that equations will be raised to the second power. Each type will have different impact on the shape of the contours.
OK - Use the OK button to save your contour settings and apply it to your map view.
Cancel - Use the Cancel button to cancel your contour settings and to exit the Contour Manager dialog box.
Level Tab
Use the Contour Level Tab to specify the contour interval and colors to be used in the contour development.
Compute Level Automatically - Use this feature to set contour levels automatically. The Value Ramp and Value Table will be calculated automatically.
Value Ramp - Specify the contour breaks here by specifying the From, To and the Increment values.
Value Table - This table displays the contour value breaks.
Color Ramp - You may choose to ramp colors here where InfoWater will progressively vary the colors for each of your data breaks from the From color to the To color.
OK - Use the OK button to save your contour settings and apply it to the map view.
Cancel - Use the Cancel button to remove the contour settings and to close the Contour Manager dialog box.
Labeling Tab
Use the Contour Labeling Tab to specify the contour labeling and text placement options.
Label Contour Line - Check this box to label contours.
Show Unit - Display the units for which the contour data is based (ex. ft. for elevation).
Placement option - Label the contour either on the line, along the top of the line or under the line. Only the "On" option will break the contour line so that the text can be read.
Contour Settings - Specify the Contour settings:
Increasing this value will make the contour lines fatter.
The number of decimals values to be included with the contour label. Only applicable when labeling is enabled.
Select from the following for which labels are to be created:
When the InfoStorm2D option is chosen, any value typed in this box will be placed before the text value.
When the Label option is chosen, any value typed in this box will be placed after the text value.
Text Symbol - These options allow you to change the appearance (font and color) of the label text. The Preview box will show how the text will be displayed.
Specify the font text, color, location, and other advanced properties for your contour labels.
Reset to the default text style and color.
This section displays the text preview. If you are satisfied with the preview, click on the OK button to apply your chosen settings.
OK - Use the OK button to save your contour settings and apply it to the map view.
Cancel - Use the Cancel button to remove the contour settings and to close the Contour Manager dialog box.
