Elevation Extractor

Elevation Extractor, as the name implies, extracts elevation for nodes from digital topographic maps such as the DEM. The elevation extractor interpolates ground surface elevations for the nodes in the distribution system from digital maps with only raster data that is currently compatible with ESRI ArcGIS.

To do elevation extraction, go to the Model Explorer, click Command Center tab on the bottom, navigate to the Tools group, and click Elevation Extractor.

Select the Source Data Format - This refers to the format of the digital topographic map (contour map) that contains elevation information of the distribution system. InfoWater Pro only accepts Raster Data Formats.

Specify the source of the digital map, i.e., the Source Layer.  Note that, you must load the digital map to the InfoWater Pro project as a layer before you run the elevation extractor. Use the Add Data button from the Map tab of ArcPro to select and add a layer containing elevation data.

Note:

The layer containing the elevation data and the current active project data layers must be on the same spatial reference for the elevation extraction to work properly. If they are not on the same spatial reference, either inaccurate elevations or no elevation will be extracted.

If required, click Recalculate Pipe Length Based on Elevation Data to calculate 3D pipe lengths using X, Y, and Z coordinates. Click Skip Node Elevation Update to just calculate pipe lengths from 3D data without modifying elevations.

If you want the elevation extracted only for the data elements contained in a domain, click Apply To Domain Only.

Finally, you may click Extract to run the elevation extractor, or click Close to close the window.
