The new Innovyze Licensing system is a soft licensing system that uses an internet connection to validate a license. Innovyze provides an entitlement ID (EID), which your system administrator, or a user with similar privileges, uses to set up the license on a PC or network server using the Innovzye License Administrator (ILA). There is no longer any need for dongles or emails back and forth to Innovyze to get you up and running.
Many of the Innovyze licensing systems have reached the limits of technological support. The new licensing system offers significant advantages, including:
No. If you are an active InfoCare customer on a supported license type, you can upgrade to Thales at no cost.
Unsupported licenses types will require upgrades to a supported license which may carry a cost.
Software that is not covered by active InfoCare is not eligible to be converted to Thales.
Existing users can upgrade when they are ready. We recommend upgrading when adding additional seats or renewing InfoCare. Existing users may also want to move to access some of the new features in recent software releases (see below).
Innovyze is currently retiring the Floating License Manager on November 1, 2022. Innovyze has stopped shipping hardware dongles for products in 2021 for most customers.
Innovyze recommends migrating to the new Innovyze Licensing (Thales) prior to these dates. To begin your migration, simply have your primary InfoCare contact for your organization complete the support portal form noted below. You will receive instructions from our licensing team with the new keys and installation instructions in about 5 business days. Innovyze provides up to 60 days to deactivate the legacy licensing and provide proof of deactivation or the return of the dongle.
Generally, only the account holder can request the license conversion. When registered on the support portal, open a request to convert the current license to a new Thales EID.
Refer to each product's Installation Guide for additional information.

Version 15.0 and later supports the new licensing.
Note: InfoSWMM SA, InfoSWMM 2D, and InfoSWMM CapPlan are not supported with the new licensing; therefore, we recommend maintaining the existing licensing system.

Yes, the new licensing system uses the Innovyze Licensing Administration (ILA) system for all products. The requirements of this new application are details here.
Innovyze migrated to the Thales licensing system given that dongles are based on a very old technology that, additional to the fact that is no longer in use, it poses high risk to software companies and clients in terms of security. This new licensing system is based on a permanent communication with the Thales sever (not Innovyze server) that requires internet connection to work. So it is a prerequisite to have that permanent internet connection. You might want to make sure that your firewall only allows this communication through the specific port to protect security. See this article for more information.
Companies who pay the InfoCare fee for all of the license seats that they use experience minimal disruption and gain a secure and modern advantage by using the new license technology.
Companies who have only some of their license seats under InfoCare have knowingly accepted a degree of risk (on the licenses that are not maintained) by making this choice. Innovyze can renew expired InfoCare license to mitigate that risk. The amnesty offer is generous.
Companies who opted out of InfoCare are former customers and are not eligible for a Thales license. Innovyze would love to have them become customers again and that is why we have been offering a very generous amnesty InfoCare campaign.
You can still keep the old licensing system to use with previous versions of the software and start to transition to the new licensing system with these additional licenses. Once you test the new licensing system and you feel more comfortable with its increased convenience, you can then decide if you want to move all your remaining licenses to the new system.
Innovyze recommends that you upgrade to the new licensing system. The choice to use an historic version is a choice to use a version of the software that has since been fixed and improved.
Hardware dongles are not intended to be repaired/replaced. Innovyze is happy to offer like for like licenses to move you from hard dongles to Thales licenses, free of charge.
No. If you need to move a license more than four times between machines, then it is possible that you are not using the right type of license for your need, and it is therefore recommended that you use a floating license. Please contact our Technical Support to help you sort out this issue.
Yes, the old licensing will continue to work throughout the migration process, and you can leave the old licensing up for 60 days while you work to get everyone on latest versions and verify that everything works. Once everything is confirmed working or after the 60 day grace period, you should deactivate the old licenses and provide deactivation keys as proof, as well as return any dongles or hardware associated with the old licenses.
