Initial Status provides a way to prescribe the status of a pipe, a pump, or a valve at the very beginning of a simulation.
This Initial status will remain unchanged unless over-written by a Rule-Based Control or Simple Control.
To specify the initial status of an element, do the following to bring up the Initial Status dialog box.
Select a pipe, pump, or valve on the map.
Go the Attribute tab of the Model Explorer dialog box.
Click on the
Initial Status icon 
or choose the
Initial Status command from the
Tools drop-down menu 
.
To specify the initial status for a group of pipes, pumps, or valves, put those elements into domain, select the
Group Editing tool
in the InfoWater Pro Ribbon in the Edit Group, and click
Initial Status tab.
Pipe Initial Status
Specify the Initial Status for Pipes in the Pipe Initial Status dialog box. Select the pipe that you want to prescribe initial controls for on your InfoWater Pro map by clicking on it and then launch this dialog box by choosing the Initial Status command from your
Model Explorer - Attribute Tab - > Tools icon
.
Initial Status Options:

None - Use this to specify no initial status for the element. This is the default setting. All newly created network elements (Pipes, Pumps and Valves) will have None as the initial status unless otherwise specified.
Note:For Pipes and Pumps, Open and None mean the same. For Valves, None will allow the valve to behave like a valve but Open will open the valve completely.
- Closed - Specify the initial status as closed. Unless over-written by a simple control or a rule based control, the element will remain closed during the entire simulation period.
- Open - Specify the initial status as open. With this setting a pipe will be open at the start of a simulation.
Purge - Choose the
Purge button to remove the initial status settings. Purge removes all settings from the Initial Status tables of the Control Data folder for that specific element.
Update - Use the Update button to save any changes to the dialog box and apply it to the InfoWater Model.
Cancel - Use this
Cancel button to cancel any changes or modifications made to the initial status and exit the dialog box.
Pump Initial Status
Use the Pump Initial Status dialog box to specify the initial operational status for pump element. Select the pump that you want to prescribe initial controls for on your InfoWater Pro map by clicking on it and then launch this dialog box by choosing the Initial Status command from your
Model Explorer - Attribute Tab - > Tools icon .

Initial Status Options:

None - Use this None button to specify no initial status for the element. This is the default setting. All newly created network elements (Pipes, Pumps and Valves) will have none as the initial status unless otherwise specified.
Note:For Pipes and Pumps, Open and None options mean the same. For Valves, the None option will allow the valve to behave like a valve using the settings applied on the Model Explorer for the valve but the Open option will open the valve completely and cause it to act like an open pipe.
- Closed - Specify the initial status as closed. Unless over-written by a simple control or a rule based control, the element will remain closed during the entire simulation period.
- Open - Specify the initial status as open. This control for pumps will cause the pump to be initially running at 100% speed at the start of the simulation. The Pump will remain open unless over-written by a simple or rule based control.
- Setting - This option is available only for valves and pumps. Specify the setting here. For pumps specify a value for the speed of a pump as a value generally ranging from zero (i.e., the Pump is off) to 1 for 100% speed when specifying a setting. The setting is taken as the decimal speed percentage (0 to 1) that will adjust the pump characteristic curve using the pump affinity laws by this number. Example: a setting of 0.8 will cause the pump to run at 80 percent of full speed.
Purge - Choose this

Valve Initial Status
Specify the Initial Status for valves over here. Select the valve that you want to prescribe initial controls for on your InfoWater Pro map by clicking on it and then launch this dialog box by choosing the Initial Status command from your
Model Explorer - Attribute Tab - > Tools icon .
Initial Status Options:
- None - Use this to specify no initial status for the element. This is the default setting. All newly created network elements (Pipes, Pumps, and Valves) will have None as the initial status unless otherwise specified.
- Closed - Specify the initial status as closed. Unless over-written by a simple control or a rule based control, the element will remain closed during the entire simulation period.
- Open - Specify the initial status as open. If an Open status is assigned to a Valve, the valve will act like an open pipe rather than an active control valve unless over-written with a Setting value or status applied by a simple or rule based control.
- Setting - This option is available only for valves and pumps. Specify the setting here. For valves, any initial status setting value will overwrite the setting specified in the setting field on the Model Explorer - Attribute Tab for the Valve.
Purge - Click
Purge to remove the initial status settings. Purge removes the settings from the Initial Status tables of the Control Data folder for that specific element.
