The Pipeline Costing function assists you in determining costs for replacing certain pipes.
The ability to determine costs for replacing water distribution infrastructure can be one of the most timely and difficult tasks in preparing a master plan.
To do Pipe Line Costing, go to the Model Explorer, click Command Center tab on the bottom, navigate to the Tools group, and click Pipeline Costing.
Desired PipesUsing either a graphical selection or by creating a domain, select the pipes for which a cost analysis is to be performed.
Pipeline Costing EquationThis is the equation for which pipe costs are determined. What will vary is the a, b, and c values supplied by the user that are unique to each costing analysis. You may wish to apply different costing equations to different domains as created by the user to represent differing parts of the system (e.g., freeway versus open field). The pipeline costing equation is a generic equation that will allow you to estimate pipeline cost. One way to interpret these factors might be: a might represent the cost of pipe per inch of diameter, b might be a pipe cost adjustment factor, and c might represent the fixed costs associated with the pipe. This is open for interpretation and can be applied as needed to develop a cost basis.
Output DataThe Output consists of the following data:
ID - The element IDs of the chosen pipes are displayed here.
Diameter - The diameter for each of the pipes is also displayed.
Length - Displays the length of each of the Pipes.
Unit Cost - This section shows the Cost per unit length for each of the Pipes.
Cost - The Total cost for the entire pipe.
Total Cost - Based on the costing equation and the pipes chosen, the total cost is ascertained.
CalculateWhen you have selected the pipes and have entered the appropriate a, b, and c values, click Calculate. It will create a pipeline cost summary for the selected elements. You can now highlight the desired data and right-mouse click on the selected area. By choosing the copy option, you can now paste that data into a third party package like Excel or Word.
