A Simple Control allows you to modify the status of elements (pipe, pump, or valve) during a hydraulic simulation - depending on the state of some other elements in the system.
For example, actual field operations may consist of having a pump turn on and off depending on the high and low water levels in a storage tank. To model this type of situation, you can place a number of simple controls on the elements with operation change. Simple controls are applied to both steady state and extended period simulations.
To enter simple controls, do the following to bring up the Simple Control dialog box.
Status Type - Specify the Action Type in this field.
Closed - Will close the element (Pipe, Pump, or Valve) if the condition specified in the Control is satisfied.
Open - Opens the element (Pipe, Pump, or Valve) if the condition specified in the Control is satisfied.
Setting - Specify the Pump (speed factor) or Valve (flow, pressure, or loss) setting here.
Method - As with any water system, action settings can be established in the telemetered system in many ways. The options here allow you to control an open, closed, or partially open condition by: The hour of the simulation run time for which a Pipe, Pump or a Valve is to change its status.
The hour of the simulation run time for which a Pipe, Pump, or Valve is to change its status.
Choose this if you want your controls to be based on Node Level (pressure at a junction node, level at a tank or reservoir node). Enter the Control Node ID or click on the select icon to choose the node graphically and enter a value in the value box
Choose this if you want your control to be based on pipe flow. Enter the control Pipe ID or click on the select icon to choose the pipe graphically and enter a value in the value box and select if the target flow is to be above or below the selected value.
By using a pattern, you can control the actions of a pipe, pump, and/or valve during an EPS based on time of day. This may consist of having a pipe automatically open and close throughout the day or having a valve partially open and close. Specify a predefined pattern in the Pattern ID select box or use the Browser button to open the pattern editor.
A direct-acting flow regulator (DAFR) can be represented as a pressure reducing valve (PRV) with an assigned "Setting versus Flow" curve. As flow through the valve increases, the downstream pressure decreases according to the defined curve profile.
Standard PRV valves have only fixed pressure downstream. This makes modeling in hilly parts difficult, because measurements upstream and downstream of PRV rarely show this kind of behavior. InfoWater Pro can model a Direct Acting Pressure Valve (DAPV) which allows you to specify a “PRV Pressure Setting versus Upstream Pressure” (y-axis is the desired PRV Pressure Setting and the x-axis is the Upstream Pressure). DAPV can also be used for Pressure Sustaining Valves (PSVs). In this case, the curve must be described as “ PSV Pressure Setting versus Downstream Pressure”.
Depending if your simulation was set up under the Simulation Times option to have a clock time different than 12:00, you may wish to have the element status controlled by the actual time instead of the simulation time. Specify the Clock Style from among the below:
Control Data - All the Control data are displayed in this section. Use the operational buttons to Update, Insert, Delete and/or Clear these controls. Additionally use the Move up/down icons to change the order of the controls. The controls are processed in top down order. The order is very important because the controls lower in the list will be processed last, and they have a higher precedence than the controls placed higher up in the display order.
Choose the Control that you want to move higher or lower in the order, and click on one of the below icons.
Move to Top - Move the Control to the top of the Order.
Move Up - Move the Control one level above.
Move Down - Move the Control one level below.
Move to Bottom - Move the Control to the bottom of the Order.
Purge - Choose this to erase and purge the current control.
Update - Use this to update, change, or modify an existing Control. To create a New control, use the Insert button.
Cancel - Use this to Cancel the changes and modifications made to the dialog box and exit.
