To import an adaptive tree

Import the 3D model of an adaptive (LOD) tree using the Style Palette.

Unless the 3D model is for a unique tree, then it will primarily be imported as a style. Importing from the style palette lets you rapidly import objects and will vary the rotation and sizing of the objects when bringing them into the model groups. For detailed information, see To import a 3D model into a style catalog.

  1. Click Manage glyph Content glyph style palette (Style Palette).

  2. Click the 3D Model tab on the left side of the Style Palette.

  3. From the style catalog list, open the catalog for the new style.

If necessary, open a sub-folder for the style.

  4. In the Style Editing area (at the bottom of the palette), click add new (Add a New Style to the Current Catalog Above).

  5. Navigate to the location of the original tree and open it.

  6. For Model Handling, select Use custom LOD.

  7. Click Add different LOD versions of this model, and load your low-polygon tree.

  8. With LOD Distance you can define the spacing for replacing the original tree with the low-polygon-tree.

Use this new tree in your model as desired. You can also create a row or a stand of trees.

  9. To replace existing trees with the new LOD tree, select trees in the model.

  10. Drag your LOD-tree from the Style Palette and drop it over the highlighted trees.
