Associate audio with a sequence or shot

In the Sequencer editor, you can import audio files for an entire sequence or associate individual audio files with specific shots.

Note: Audio files imported into Maya must use PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) format.

Import audio for a sequence

To import an audio file for the sequence:

  1. Move the timeline cursor in the Sequencer editor to the frame where you want the audio clip to begin.
  2. Select File > Import Sequencer Audio.
  3. In the Import window, select the audio file and click Open.

The audio is loaded in the Soundtrack area of the Sequencer editor.

Note: Ensure that the Soundtrack area is expanded if the audio clip does not appear immediately.

You can drag the audio clip left or right to change when it starts playing relative to the sequence.

To change the duration of the audio clip relative to the sequence, see Adjust the timing of audio in a sequence.

Associate audio with a shot

To associate an audio file with a specific shot:

  1. Select a shot.
  2. From the Sequencer editor menu bar, select File > Import Shot Audio.
  3. Select the audio file and click Open.

The audio is loaded in the Soundtrack area of the Sequencer editor and associated with the selected shot.

The position and duration of the audio clip are controlled by the associated shot. You cannot move the audio clip independently along the timeline. For example, if the shot starts at frame 1 and ends at frame 350, the audio clip also starts at frame 1 and ends at frame 350.

Audio playback notes

If audio does not play back as expected in the Sequencer editor, ensure that audio playback is enabled in both the Sequencer editor and the Time Slider:

  • In the Sequencer editor, Enable Sound is enabled in the View menu.
  • In the Time Slider, Audio > Use Trax Sounds is enabled. (Right-click the Time Slider to access these options.)
