Manage shot cameras and image planes

You can assign cameras and image planes to shots in the Sequencer editor and configure how they are displayed. Shots can also display thumbnails for visual reference, including custom thumbnails.

Assign an image plane to a shot

You can assign an image plane to a shot's camera either when creating the shot or after the shot already exists.

  1. In the Sequencer editor, select Create > Shot > .
  2. In the Create Shot Options, specify the file to assign using the Image option.
Note: If you assign an image plane during shot creation and later change the camera used by the shot, the image plane does not move to the new camera.
Assign or change an image plane on an existing shot

Do one of the following:

  • If the shot has no image plane, right-click the shot and select Attach Image Plane, then select a file.
  • To change an existing image plane, right-click the shot and select Image Plane Attribute Editor. In the Attribute Editor, set a new file using the Image Name attribute.
Note: Image planes used in the Sequencer editor are designed to play movies, so the Type attribute is set to Movie by default. To use a still image, change the Type to Image File. If your system supports QuickTime, some still images can also be read as single-frame movies.
Use an image plane to hide geometry

To hide scene geometry behind an image plane, set the image plane Opacity to 1.0. Scene geometry is not drawn.

Shots can display a thumbnail image in the upper-left corner of the shot. You can assign a custom thumbnail independent of the image plane.

Change the camera used by a shot

You can change which camera a shot uses through the Shot Playlist.

  1. In the Sequencer editor, select View > Playlist.
  2. In the Shot Playlist window, use the Camera column drop-down to select a camera for each shot.
