Attribute Editor menus

The Attribute Editor can be a separate window or docked to the UI. See Dock and undock windows and panels.

List

Use this menu to load attributes into the Attribute Editor and to define which items display in the Selected/Object menu.

Click the Pin Tab icon to keep the selected tab loaded, even when you make another selection in your scene. See Pin a tab in the Attribute Editor.

Selected/Object

The Selected menu lists objects currently selected in the scene while the Object menu displays all the objects in the scene of a selected type.

This menu displays all nodes that have been selected in the scene while the Attribute Editor is open. The most recently selected node is at the top of the list.

Use this menu to add, edit, and delete extra attributes for an object or node. These attributes appear under the Extra Attributes section. You can also add, edit, and delete attributes using the Modify menu.

You can select from the following options:

Add Attributes
Opens the Add Attributes window. See Add Attributes.
Delete Attributes

Show

By Node Type
Filters tabs shown in the Attribute Editor according to node type. The menu displays a list of the currently available related node type filters, as well as their status. You can toggle individual node type filters; if a node type filter is on, nodes of that type will be filtered out of your related tabs.
You can select from the following global options:
  • Enable All: Turns on all of the available node type filters.
  • Toggle All: Toggles all of the available node type filters.

For example, if polyTweak is turned on in the By Node Type menu, nodes of type polyTweak are filtered out of the related tabs. Selecting Toggle All turns polyTweak off. As a result, nodes of type polyTweak are no longer filtered from the related tabs.

If polyTweak is turned off in the By Node Type menu, nodes of type polyTweak are included in the related tabs. Selecting Toggle All turns polyTweak on. As a result, nodes of type polyTweak are filtered out of the related tabs.

  • Disable All: Turns off all of the available node type filters.
Add New Filter Type
Opens the Define New Filter Type window, and lets you create a filter for the specified node type.
Add Filter Types for Selected
Add a new node filter for each type of node currently selected.
Note: Node types that already have a filter defined will be ignored.
Add Filter Types for Related
Add a new node filter for each type of node related to the current selection. (ie. each type of node for which at least one tab appears in the Attribute Editor)
Note: Node types that already have a filter defined will be ignored.
Remove Filter Type
Lets you remove an existing node type filter from the Show menu.
Save Show Preset
Opens the Save Filter Type Preset dialog box. Enter a preset name to save the current filters and their state in the preferences.
Load Show Preset
Load an existing show filter preset by selecting a name from this list.
Set Current View
Displays a list of views that can be applied to the selected node. See Apply an Attribute Editor template or Refresh an Attribute Editor template.
Set Global View
Displays a list of views that can be applied to all node types that have the same custom template view. See Apply an Attribute Editor template or Refresh an Attribute Editor template.
Show default if no global view
When enabled, this option makes the Attribute Editor revert to its default template, if a node type does not have the selected global view defined in its custom template. If the node type does not have a custom template, the Attribute Editor uses the last custom template view that was applied.
Show View Labels
When enabled, this option displays the name of the currently selected view and its associated template. See Apply an Attribute Editor template.
Show Notes

When enabled, this option displays a Notes section at the bottom of each tab in the Attribute Editor. If Show Notes is disabled, it remains disabled when you create a new scene or re-launch Maya.

Show Color Managed Pots

Enables color management for color controls, including solid colors and ramps. This setting is stored in your Color Management preferences.
