Walk through the scene

To walk through the scene

  1. Select Walk Tool options, or use the Alt + X hotkey.

Maya enters walk mode. The cursor changes to a multi-directional arrow and a heads-up display message appears in the viewport.

Note: Viewport selection is disabled when Maya is in walk mode.
  2. Walk through the scene by doing the following:
    • Drag the cursor to look around the scene.
    • Click and hold a mouse button, and then use the arrow keys or movement hotkeys to walk through the scene. See Control Walk Tool speed and Walk Tool.
Important: When walk mode is active, the mouse controls the speed of movement and the keyboard controls the direction of movement. You must use the mouse and keyboard simultaneously to walk through the scene. For example, to move forward at a slow speed, middle-click + W or Up arrow key.
  3. To exit walk mode, do one of the following:
    • Press Esc.
    • Use the Alt + X hotkey.
    • Switch to another tool.
