Mirror skin weights in Skin Tools

Skin Tools provides a number of different ways to mirror weights. Interactive mirroring while painting weights. A manual operation that copies weights from one side to the other. A post-process that is only applied when the final skin weights are applied to the skin cluster.

Interactive Mirror (Paint Tab)

Interactive Mirror provides real-time mirroring of all brush strokes as they are painted.

Manual Mirror (Mirror Tab)

Manual Mirror performs a one-time operation that copies weights from one side of the mesh to the other.

Mirror Effect (Effects Tab)

Mirroring is applied as a post-process when the weights are applied to the skin cluster. Artists can paint weights on one side of a symmetrical layer and have them mirrored automatically without altering the base layer data. Mirroring settings can be adjusted or disabled at any time.

Note: When using effects, the mirrored weights will not be visible while painting in the viewport.

Configure mirroring

Influence mapping Defines how symmetrical joints are paired. The Influence Mapping Editor allows users to adjust matching rules and review joint pairings.
Vertex mapping Defines how vertices correspond across the mirror plane. A symmetry mesh can be used to improve accuracy for complex topology.
