Replace file references

You can replace a referenced file with another reference without changing existing edits to the reference.

To replace a file reference

1. Do one of the following:
   • In the Outliner, right-click the reference you want to replace, and select Reference > Replace from the menu that appears.
   • In the Reference Editor, select the referenced file you want to replace, and select Reference > Replace Reference.
2. In the browse window that appears, locate the file you want to reference as a substitute and click Reference.

   The previous reference is replaced.

To view files that have been recently replaced, right-click a reference in the Outliner or Reference Editor, and then select Reference > Recently Replaced Files. You can then quickly revert back to any previously replaced references by selecting the file.
