Working with Updates to Objects

While making changes to your nesting study, you can specify that Inventor Nesting updates objects automatically or only when you choose to. Autodesk recommends automatic update, because this simplifies and speeds up your workflow. However, if you are working with a complex model that uses a lot of processing power, or want to troubleshoot an issue, you might want to disable automatic update so you can select what objects you want to update and when.

Enable Automatic Update

Update a Selection Manually

When automatic update is disabled, objects in the Inventor Nesting browser that need updating are indicated by an out-of-date icon . Objects can enter this state when a nest or referenced geometry has been modified. (If the referenced geometry has been changed, a "needs extraction" icon is also shown; in this case, you need to re-extract the shape using the Shapes dialog box before you can update it.)

For example, if you change parameters in a nest, such as stack size or item separation, and automatic update is not enabled, the nest is shown as out-of-date.

To manually update an item:

  1. Right-click the item in the Inventor Nesting browser.
  2. Select Refresh.
