What is Rail Tract Extraction?

Rail gauge lines are essential for ensuring the correct spacing and alignment of rails, which is crucial for the safety and performance of rail projects as well as re-construction of rail alignments. The tool allows for precise and consistent extraction of these gauge lines by tracing the rail path which is used to perform a ‘digital measuring bar’ extraction. The extracted feature lines can then be converted to rail alignments by the Horizontal Regression Tool in Civil 3D for detailed design.

Note: Rail track extraction performs best with high-quality point cloud data acquired using mobile or terrestrial LiDAR systems, where rail head edges are clearly defined.
