Test Your Connection

The Test Your Connection tool will analyze the health of the connection from your location to the Flow Production Tracking servers. These tests ensure that your devices and systems can establish and maintain proper communication with the Flow Production Tracking services.

Test Your Connection

Results from the test can be used for troubleshooting your connection so that you can optimize network settings, choose the right media storage location, and troubleshoot Flow Production Tracking network-related problems more effectively.

Note:

The speed at which the test completes is typically between one and two minutes, depending on your network speed.

The test status will show as Complete once all tests are analyzed.

Test Complete

The Connection Test includes four different tests:

Flow Production Tracking API Latency Test

API Latency Test

This is a simple test that sends a request to the Flow Production Tracking server that then sends back a short response. The Latency Test verifies the Flow Production Tracking server is reachable and responsive. The Flow Production Tracking server is stored in the East Coast of the United States, and latency results will differ depending on where you are geographically located.

Media Upload Test

Media Upload Test

This test uploads a 20mb file to the media storage location that is configured on your site.

Note:

The media storage location is a site-wide, global preference controlled by your Flow Production Tracking site Administrator.

The Upload Test evaluates the speed at which the file is transferred from your location to the Studio’s configured media storage location. Other storage locations are included in the analysis so that there are reference values to compare against.

Media Download Test

Media Download Test

This test downloads a designated 20mb file from your site's media storage location. The Download Test evaluates the time elapsed between requesting an image file from your Media AWS bucket and when it becomes available to your browser. Other storage locations are included in the analysis so that there are reference values to compare against.

Thumbnail Download Test

Thumbnail Download Test

This test downloads 50 different small image files from your site's media storage location. The Thumbnail Download evaluates the time elapsed between requesting the 50 different small image files from your Media AWS bucket and when it becomes available to your browser.

Downloading Results

You also have the ability to download the Connection Test results as a csv file, so that you can share with your Flow Production Tracking Administrator or our Autodesk Support team when needed. Select Download Results to download the csv file.

Download Results

More details are included in the downloaded csv, like Test IDs, User Location, and more. These additional details are useful for Administrators and support to reference.

FAQs:

How long does the test take to run a test?

It depends on your network, but our testing has shown most tests complete between one and two minutes.

Why do you test all locations, not just the studio’s bucket location?

So that there are comparison values and context for the returned results.

Note:

Only a Flow Production Tracking site Administrator can configure the Studio’s Media AWS bucket location.

What’s not shown in these tests?

By design, we’re not doing an internet speed test, though this speed will affect the results. There are many tools (online and likely on your machine) available that can perform network speed tests, trace-routes, etc—providing users with more detail into their network's performance. For this first iteration, we decided to provide a specific snapshot of your network connection to Flow Production Tracking services.

Pages are loading slow in Flow Production Tracking, but my latency and uploads/downloads look fine

These tests are network focused, and don’t offer insights into a customers’ database performance. For more information about database activity, we recommend you use the Site Activity Monitor
