File Management Tools in Preconstruction
In Forma Takeoff, you’ll work with both 2D and 3D files to perform quantity takeoff. To manage these and other project files, there are two tools available to you: Sheets & Models and Files. You can access these tools through the left navigation in Preconstruction.
Files Tool
In the Files tool, upload, organize, and store any project documentation. Items stored in Files are accessible to other Autodesk Forma products such as Forma Build.
Sheets & Models Tool
Use the Sheets & Models tool to add sheets and upload models needed for quantity takeoff.
Add PDF files as sheets in the 2D sheets tab and models in the 3D models tab of Sheets & Models. The sheets and models can then be used for takeoff in the Takeoff viewer.
For new projects created on or after October 15, 2026, 2D sheets for Takeoff are stored in the Files tool. This doesn't include projects created from project templates that were created before October 15, 2026. Existing projects will continue to store 2D sheets in Takeoff until the project is migrated to the new experience on a rolling basis.
In this new experience, Takeoff consumes sheets from the Files tool, rather than maintaining independent copies of the sheets or requiring additional workflows to upload sheets to Takeoff separately. The Files tool controls versioning of the sheets, and also provides permissioning so that you can control who has access to the sheets for takeoff.
