Learn some of the key concepts and terminology used in Autodesk Tandem.

Key Concept Description
Asset Objects or elements within a facility that need to be managed such as door, pump, HVAC system etc. Assets have meaningful data (Parameters or properties) associated with them such as name, unique ID, etc
Asset Breakdown Structure Use industry standard classification systems to specify your asset breakdown structure, (Asset model) or define your own classification scheme. It supports nested assets where the child assets inherit parameters from the parent assets.
Asset and Design Properties Asset properties are user defined properties created within Autodesk Tandem that are specified within your asset information model. Design properties are all the Revit parameters (both element and type parameters) that are imported when publishing Revit models into Tandem.
Capture Collect and aggregate the data required for your digital handover from all involved project teams and contributors into one digital hub. Currently, Tandem supports Revit and IFC data formats for creating the federated model of the Digital Twin facility.
Classification Code An individual specification relating to an asset grouping.
Classification System A standard for organizing asset model specifications and other asset information for the Digital Twin e.g. commercial and institutional building Digital Twins.
Connection A connection is the digital representation of an IoT device or asset. Examples of these include thermostats, air handling unit, or occupancy sensors.
Data Point A single reading from a physical device or sensor in Autodesk Tandem
Element and Type Properties Each element of the model is an instance of a family type. Element parameters apply to all elements that belong to a particular family type, but the values of these parameters could be unique for each instance of the element. An example would be a serial number or installation date. Type properties, however, are common to all elements in a family, and each parameter has the same value for all instances. An example would be a manufacturer's name or a model number.
Facility A building or structure that contains real world assets. Think of a facility as a project. Each facility is a digital representation of a physical building (Digital Twin) that is currently being designed and built or is being managed by the owner/operator.
Facility Template A template that can be used to preconfigure Classification Systems and Parameters when a new facility is created.
Hub The central repository for Tandem data, templates, classification systems, users as well as where to monitor usage.
Parameter A parameter is an attribute or property with specific definition of data associated to an asset. It can include a name, data type, measure, unit of measure, symbol, precision, description and context.
Specify Set up, track, manage, and define the data requirements most relevant to your project and organize them to best suit your needs.
Streams The data points or readings such as temperature and vibration that come from the connection of a physical device or sensor in Autodesk Tandem and are recorded at a user-defined frequency.
Systems A digital representation of connected elements and their relationship to the model. Examples of this include HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical, or sprinkler systems.
Asset A “Asset” is an element where users has indicated as such after it has been classified. An “element” here could be an asset with geometry (like a door) or a logical element such as a Space, stream, or system.
Type A type is a logical element that represents a collection of identical elements. NOTE that when Revit files are the source for a facility, “types” in Tandem are generated based on Revit “family types.” Our use of the term “element” maps to an “instance” of a Revit type.
