Translations

Translations are generated so that users who do not have access to a specific CAD program are still able to view CAD models and drawings. In Upchain, there are several translations that may be generated either automatically or depending on tenant property settings. Translations may be created for a CAD model or drawing.

Note: A translation can only exist within an item.

Translations of CAD models

If an item contains a CAD model, then Upchain automatically generates the following translations during item creation and subsequent check ins:

These translations may be viewed in the 3D Viewer or downloaded from the web app or CAD plugin.

Translations of drawings

Your Tenant Administrator may enable the tenant properties drawing.create.pdf and drawing.create.dwg. When enabled, it means that whenever you check in a drawing through the CAD plugin, Upchain prompts your CAD system to create a DWG and a PDF translation of the drawing and uploads this to the item. The creation of these two translations are independent of each other and rely on the settings in your CAD system to generate them correctly.

Note: If you have added drawing attribute codes to your drawing, these are not converted to their respective values until the item is released.
