Check out an item to modify its CAD

To begin editing the CAD file of an item from the CAD plugin, you must Check out the CAD file. Once checked out, the item is locked to you for editing, which means you can make changes to its CAD file, as well as its attributes if desired.

Note: You may only check out items that are not currently checked out by any other user. If they are currently checked out to someone else (red check out lock), you will be notified and your check out will not proceed. This ensures that only one user can make changes to an item at a time.

When the process finishes:

Check out a CAD file from the Project BOM

If you already know what changes need to be made to a particular part or assembly, you can check out the item directly from the Project BOM.

  1. From the My Workspace or My Projects section, click the project you want to work in.

The project name and number appears at the top of the plugin to set the context for the rest of the plugin.

  2. Click the BOM view icon (icon_-_BOM.png) in the menu bar.

  3. Select Project BOM from the drop-down.

  4. Right-click the BOM item you want to open, and select Check out from the drop-down.

The Check out files window opens.

  5. (Optional) Choose which file version of the parent assembly you want to check out. You may do this if you want to take an older file version and check it in to make it the latest file version. Click here for more information. This defaults to the latest version.

  6. (Optional) Select the desired Load Filter.

  7. Click the box in the first column beside any child items that you also want to check out at the same time.

Tip: Right-click the left-most column heading to select CAD files by item status.
  8. Click the box in the second column to check out any drawings at the same time.

Tip: Right-click the second column heading to select drawings by item status.
Note: The Check out window displays a box next to every item regardless of whether it has a drawing. If you select a box beside an item that does not have a corresponding drawing, then no drawing is checked out.
  9. Click Download to download the files to your local drive.

  10. When the item is finished downloading, click Open model.

When the process finishes:

You can now start making changes to the CAD file, drawings, and item attributes if desired.
