The item view displays information about the item open in the viewer of the Generic plugin. Use this view to view and edit an item's attributes, access and add supporting documentation to the item, and more.
You may register a CAD file to an item in Upchain if:
This is because the item view can only work with one item at a time. If you want to register an entire assembly, you must use the BOM view.
To register a CAD file:
Open the CAD file in the viewer of the Generic plugin.
In the item view, click Create item.
The Project selector opens.
Click the box next to the project in which to create the item. If you want to add this item as a child to an existing item within that project's BOM, expand the chevron to the left of the project name and check the box next to the desired item.
Click Select.
If the item you selected already contains child items, Upchain presents you with a message asking if you want to add new items to the structure. The existing items will remain untouched. Click Yes to continue.
The CAD Check in window opens to provide a preview of the cBOM files (left side) and the engineering BOM items to be created (right side). By default, the CAD file has a green checkmark icon beside it to indicate that a BOM item will be created. You may perform the following actions in this window:
Click OK at the bottom of the CAD Check in window. The CAD file is now associated with an item, assigned a unique item number, and saved in the Upchain database.
Your newly-created item is now locked (checked out) to you as shown with a green check out lock and green text. This is so that you can make changes to the item attributes or categorization before checking the item in.

With your desired item open, open the item view (
).
Click Check out.
A check out lock is placed on the item.
