PREREQUISITES

Autodesk Revit
The files included in this ZIP file
Power BI Desktop (will not work with the web version of Power BI)

PROCEDURE

The basic steps to configure a Revit model and Power BI report to use them are:

1. In Windows Explorer, identify a location to store Excel reports
NOTE: Only the exported Model Checker report Excel files can be in this folder or any subfolder. Extra files will make the Power BI query not function correctly.

2. In Revit, setup the model to use dashboard checkset in Model Checker
NOTE: The "Revit Model Dashboard.xml" file has been provided in this ZIP file, or you can access the"Model Health Dashboard" checkset from the Model Checker public library. These are the same checkset file and have been specifically designed for this Power BI Template

3. In Revit, toggle the correct year of elements in Model Checker
NOTE: Expand to the "Total Elements Revit" checks and check the specific year for your model, and verify other years are not checked. This is due to the changing categories from year to year in the Revit model.

4. In Revit, run report in Model Checker

5. In Revit, export report results to Excel in selected folder
NOTE: The Excel filename does not matter to Power BI, but naming it based on the export date or the order of report is recommended.

6. In Power BI, open the report template Revit Model Dashboard - Multiple Projects.pbit
NOTE: Be sure to change file type in the open dialog. The default is not pbit.

7. In Power BI, add folder path to "Folder" field and click Load
NOTE: Do not touch other dropdowns - "Parameter 01" and "Parameter 02"
NOTE: You may get an error referring to an Access Database Engine. Please refer to
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/desktop-access-database-errors
for help resolving this error

8. In Power BI, save your report

Once the Power BI report and Revit model are configured, you simply need to run a report in Model Checker in Revit and export the results to Excel, saving the Excel file to the folder setup in step 1. Those new files will automatically be read by Power BI when you refresh the data.
