Customize Toolbars and Menu Commands

You can customize which menu commands are available on toolbars and create custom toolbars with your most frequently used commands. Toolbars can be turned off or on. You can also create and delete custom toolbars. You can also change settings for showing full menus, menus usage data, and icon size. 

The following toolbars can be customized, but they cannot be renamed or deleted:

Customize Toolbars

  1. Click the Toolbars tab. The Toolbars tab lists the available toolbars.
  2. You can either customize an existing toolbar or create a new toolbar. To create a new, empty toolbar, click New. In the New Toolbar dialog box, enter a name for the new toolbar and then click OK.
  3. Click the Command tab.
  4. From the Categories list, select a category containing the commands you want to add to the toolbar.
  5. The Commands list displays the commands available in the selected category. Commands can be added to custom toolbars or to existing toolbars. Commands can also be removed from toolbars.
    • To add a command to a toolbar, drag-and-drop a command from the Commands list to the toolbar.
    • To remove a command from the toolbar, drag-and-drop it from the toolbar back to the Commands list.
    • You can rearrange the commands on the toolbar by dragging and dropping the icons on the toolbar.
    • To turn off a toolbar that is currently displayed, turn off the check box in front of the toolbar name in the list.
    • To display a toolbar that is currently turned off, turn on the check box in front of the toolbar name in the list.
    • To return a toolbar to its original content and layout, select the toolbar from the list, and then click Reset. You are prompted to confirm your actions. Click OK.
    • To remove a custom toolbar, select the toolbar from the Toolbars list, and then click Delete.
    • To rename a custom toolbar, select the toolbar from the Toolbars list and then click Rename. In the Rename Toolbar dialog box, enter a new name for the toolbar, and then click OK.
  6. Click Close.

Personalize Menus and Toolbars

  1. In the Customization dialog box, click the Options tab.
    • To display menus that contain only the most frequently used commands, turn off the Always show full menus check box.
    • Turn on the Show full menus after a short delay check box to view the entire menu by pausing the cursor in the menu if you are using shortened menus. This option is only available if Always show full menus is turned off.
    • To reset the list of most frequently used commands, click Reset my usage data. Menus will display the full list and your usage data will start over.
    • To display large icons in the toolbars, turn on the Large icons check box.
    • To display ScreenTips when the cursor pauses over a button in a toolbar, turn on the Show ScreenTips on toolbars check box. To include shortcut keys for the command in the ScreenTip, turn on the Show shortcut keys in ScreenTips check box.
    • By default, the menus follow the same animation settings selected for Windows. To change the animation used to reveal a menu, select an animation style from the Menu animations list.
  2. Click Close.
