3ds Max creates Body Objects when you import certain file formats, such as SAT files.
You can create Body Objects out of other 3ds Max object types, but the main use of this object type is to support import from other products; for example, Autodesk Inventor, Alias, Autodesk Showcase, and a variety of third-party applications. You can export back to some of those formats, as well; in particular to Autodesk ACIS solids.
On the Create panel, the object type drop-down list lets you choose a Body Objects entry. This opens an Object Type rollout that contains four buttons:
- Body Utility Edits properties of a Body Object.
- Body Object Converts another 3ds Max object to the Body Object type.
- Join Bodies Combines Body Objects.
- Body Cutter Uses one set of Body Objects to slice another.
There are also Body Snap settings that are specifically for use with Body Objects.
