Scene Converter

The Scene Converter easily converts your legacy scenes to take advantage of newer lights, materials, and renderer features.

  • Default menu: > Menu bar > Rendering > Scene Converter
  • Alt menu: > Menu bar > Rendering > Tools (Rendering Set) > Scene Converter
  • Alt menu: > Menu bar > Scene > Tools (Scene Set) > Scene Converter

By providing a simple workflow to migrate lights, materials, and objects between render engines, the Scene Converter allows you to take advantage of numerous presets for different renderers, such as Arnold or fast cloud renderers like A360, without tedious manual conversion requirements. It is also ideal for users migrating scenes to use in real-time game engines, web applications, online stores, or other applications that use glTF materials.

You can easily customize and fine-tune the existing conversion scripts using a simple interface to create Source to Target batch conversion rules. The Scene Converter's capabilities can be extended at any time using new scripts from Autodesk and the user community. The script-based converters can be fine-tuned to meet your individual requirements.

Note: As of 3ds Max 2021 mentalray nodes are no longer translated to Physical Materials. These nodes are ignored and removed from the scene.
