POINTCLOUDCLIP (Command)

Product Documentation
Intermediate

Creates and modifies clipping boundaries that define which points are displayed in a selected point cloud.

Summary

Clipping boundaries filter out areas of the point cloud that you do not need to see. Clipped portions are not removed and can be turned on and off as you work. You can define rectangular or polygonal clipping boundaries and combine them with a 3D clipping box to customize how the point cloud is displayed. Defining clipping boundaries for large point clouds improves program performance.

List of Prompts

The following prompts are displayed.

On

Hides the portion of the point cloud that is outside the clipping area.

Off

Displays the entire point cloud, including portions that are outside the clipping boundary.

Clippingbox

Sets the boundaries of a box-shaped volume that defines the part of the point cloud that will not be displayed or printed.

NoteIf the point cloud already has a clipping box that has been modified, you can choose whether to restore the default clipping box or retain the modifications.
Delete

Deletes the selected point cloud clipping boundary.

Generate Polyline

Creates a polyline that coincides with a selected point cloud clipping boundary. The new polyline inherits the current layer, linetype, and color settings.

New Boundary

Creates either a rectangular or polygonal clipping boundary.

  • Select polyline. Converts a polyline that you select to a clipping boundary for a selected point cloud. The polyline can be open, but must have straight segments that do not intersect each other.
  • Polygonal. Creates a point cloud clipping boundary based on three or more locations or drawing coordinates that you specify.
  • Rectangular. Creates a point cloud clipping boundary based on the corners that you specify.
  • Invert clip. Switches the display of the points in the point cloud to be either inside or outside the clipping boundary.
