Converts raw data from a 3D scan file into a PCG or ISD point cloud format that can be attached to a drawing.

Summary

You can create a point cloud file from scan files created by a LIDAR scanner (LAS file) or smaller 3D scanners.

Source Data

Add Scan Files

Opens a standard file selection dialog box, where you can select additional scan files to process.

Remove Selected

Removes a file from the scan file table.

Remove All

Removes all scan files from the table.

Scan File table

Lists the path, format, name, and status of scan files selected for processing.

Merge All Scan Files Into a Single Point Cloud

Specifies that all listed scan files will be treated as a single point cloud after processing.

When this option is selected, enter a name for the combined point clouds in the Name of New Point Cloud Entry Box.

Specifies the name for the merged point cloud file.

Save New Point Cloud(s)
(Available only when Merge All Scan Files Into a Single Point Cloud is selected)

Specifies the target location to save all point cloud files.

Browse

Searches for a location to save the processed point cloud.

Settings

Create Autodesk Point Cloud (.pcg)

Creates Autodesk point cloud (PCG) files from scan files.

You can specify whether the following information is retained with the point cloud.

  • RGB. Imports RGB color model values for points in the scan file.
  • Intensity. Imports color intensity values for points in the scan file. The values are expressed as a percentage and range from 0.0 to 1.0.
  • Normals. Imports any point normals for the cloud points.
  • Custom attributes. Imports information to help classify point cloud components, such as ground, low or medium vegetation, water, and overlap points.

Information is imported only if it is available in the scan file.

Create Ambercore Spatial Point Cloud (.isd)

Creates Ambercore spatial point cloud (ISD) files from scan files.

Progress

Displays information about the point cloud creation process.

The point cloud button in the task bar contains additional information.

Create

Starts the point cloud creation process.

Merge

(Available only when Merge All Scan files Into a Single Point Cloud is selected)

Starts the point cloud creation process.

Hide

Temporarily minimizes the dialog box without stopping the point cloud creation process.
