- Click a layout tab.
- Double-click within a layout viewport to make it current.
- Create a layer.
- In the Layer Properties Manager, click New Layer.
- Enter a new layer name by typing over the highlighted layer name.
- Layer names can be up to 255 characters long (double-byte or alphanumeric), and include letters, numbers, spaces, and several special characters.
- Layer names cannot include the following characters: < > / \ “ : ; ? * | = ‘
- In the Layer Properties Manager, click New Layer.
- Right-click the new layer and choose .
- In the New VP Freeze column, click the icon to change the layer's state so the layer is frozen in any new viewport created.
