Viewport Improvements (2024.1)

We've made some updates to viewport elements, including a new UI scaling preference, an accessible toggle for Camera-based Selection, as well as added the ability to assign hotkeys to ViewCube rotation.

New UI Scale Preference

You can now adjust the display scale of the Alias interface using the new System Scale Multiplier preference. The new preference lets you scale the UI based on your set system display properties. When using the default value Use System Display Scale (100%), the Alias UI scale is the same as your system properties. The changes from adjusting the scale takes effect immediately. You do not need to restart Alias after setting this preference.

The preference also supports multiple displays that are set to different system display scale settings. For example, if you have two displays and one has system display properties set to 100% and the other is set 200%, adjusting the System Scaling Multiplier preference to 150% results in a final scaling of 150% and 300% respectively.

Access the System Scale Multiplier preference in the Windows > Scale and Size section of the General Preferences.

Camera Based Selection toggle

You can now toggle Camera-based Selection on and off without having to open the Selection Option window. It has the same effect as toggling the Camera-based Selection from the hotkey. For example, in the Hotkey Editor see Special > Generally Useful Functions > Camera-based Selection.

  • Click the icon in the top-right area of the view window to turn it on.
  • Click the icon again to turn it off. The prompt line verifies the current Camera-based Selection state.

Special Hotkeys for ViewCube Rotation

We've added the ability to assign hotkeys to the ViewCube rotation. In the Hotkey Editor, look under Special, then ViewCube functions. Here you can assign hotkeys for Rotate Clockwise and Rotate Counter Clockwise.

Docking improvements

We've made the following improvements and updates to window docking:

  • When docking windows, palettes, shelves, or editors in floating groups or to either side border, their original width is now better maintained.
  • When docking windows or editors to top or bottom borders, the height of the window is set.
  • When docking the Tool palette or shelf to the top or bottom borders, the initial docking height is set to display a single row of icons.
  • To prevent options from being hidden, window resizing is now restricted to a minimum width.
