Data Translation Additions and Improvements (2026)

In Alias 2026, we've provided updates to data translation as well as new import and export formats.

Data Translation Updates

We are in the process of updating some low-level libraries that affect CATIA, NX, and SolidWorks data translation. Our goal is to improve the quality and performance of these translators, while ensuring closer alignment to the conventions set in the native products.

We strongly encourage you to take this opportunity to become familiar with our New Data Translator, as we plan to make it the default in the future. To try out these updates, access the translators import or export settings by selecting File > Import > File > or File > Export > Active As , then switch the Toolkit option from Legacy to New Data Translator.

When using the New Data Translator, you will find several improvements regarding scene structure as well as node structure and ordering. Object naming from imports is also more consistent with the source file from the CAD application.

Additional improvements include the following:

  • Surface and mesh data improvements for imported CATIA V5 files.
  • Curve color is promoted to Alias Layer color for CATIA and NX imports
  • Construction curve and point visibility is better respected for NX imports.
  • Less data loss when converting meshes from NX.
  • Speed improvements when importing SolidWorks files.

For additional information about the New Data Translator, see Import File.

New Import and Export Formats

  • Parasolid 37 for import and export
  • CATIA Ver 6 (3DXML) for import
  • SolidWorks 2025 for import using the New Data Translator
