New Alias to VRED Live Referencing (2026)
Live Referencing brings Alias and VRED together by connecting the important data. It makes visualization accessible for designers and surface modelers enabling faster iteration for design reviews, XR collaboration, or creating high-end visuals. When modeling, turn on auto updates to see changes as they happen in real time. Alternatively, work in a more traditional way and pull Alias changes into VRED when ready. Save time, work efficiently and evolve your concepts, designs and models to a higher quality than ever before.
Live Referencing starts in Alias with your currently loaded .wire file. Enabling the feature for the file generates a temporary cache (.alvred) version of the data and makes it available to VRED. In VRED, you create the Live Reference, which establishes the live connection to the cache. Your data now appears the same in both applications without additional modifications. This allows Alias modelers to send their data to VRED visualization experts in real time.
Live References can include:
- Scene hierarchy, including layer organization
- NURBS surfaces and subdivision objects
- VRED materials and any assigned textures
- Lights (with the exceptions of Linear or Ambient lights)
- Animation
- Cameras
- Annotations
- References (using a Live Reference specific workflow)
Live References do not include:
- Environments
- Curves
- Alias Variants
- Markups and Canvases
