About Adding Views (AutoCAD Mechanical Toolset)

You can add a view to a part/feature that already exists in the library in any of the following ways.

  • By adding the current drawing.
  • By adding selected geometry.
  • By adding a block.
  • By creating the view from scratch, in the Content Editor.

Sometimes it is convenient to save an existing view under another name and modify it. For example it is easier to create a sectional side view from a side view, rather than drawing it from scratch.

Once you add the view, you follow the same process that you used to refine the previous views. It is likely that you have already completed setting up the Family Table. When dimensionally constraining the view, check the Family Table and ensure that you use the same names for dimensional constraints across views. Failing to do so may result in the following problems:

  • A dimensional constraint name that you used in the current view, is already used in a previous view. However, it is mapped to a Family Table column, which is not the column you want it to map to.
  • The Family Table column you want to map to, is already mapped to another dimensional constraint, which has been defined in another view.
