About Creating Cuts Lists From Parts Lists (AutoCAD Mechanical Toolset)

Parts lists contain a grouping mechanism that allows parts lists to be used as cuts lists.

Cuts lists are typically used with steel shapes where all the lengths are summed together.

You can select one or more parts list columns to group by. Rows that have the same value for these columns are collapsed to a single row and the numeric columns are summed. The entries of grouped text columns, which are not the key for grouping, can be different. Such cells are shaded in the grouped row. If you overwrite the shaded data, all grouped items get the modified entry.

The grouping option is not possible for custom parts list. To group custom parts lists, use a drawing mask (.dsk) files. DSK files are created using the Mask Editor. See Miscellaneous Advanced Tools for documentation on the Mask Editor.
