To Localize an External Reference (AutoCAD Mechanical Toolset)

  1. Click Structure tabTools panelStructure Catalog. Find
  2. Click the Current Drawing tab.
  3. From the Definitions panel in the Mechanical Structure section, right-click the external reference (xref) component or folder you want to localize. A menu is displayed.
  4. If the xref component or folder in turn contains xref components/folder, and you want to localize those as well:
    • Select Localize All. The definitions of the component/folder and all xref components/folders it contains are copied to the current drawing.

    If the xref component or folder in turn contains xref components/folder, and you don't want to localize them:

    • Select Localize. The definitions of the component/folder is copied to the current drawing. Xref components or folders it contained continue to be xref components/folders.

    If the xref component does not contain any xref components or folders:

    • Select Localize. The definition of the component is copied to the current drawing and the Definitions panel in the Mechanical Structure section indicates that the component is local.
Note:
  • If the link to the file containing the xref component is no longer necessary, AutoCAD Mechanical toolset displays a message to check if it is OK to remove the link to the external file. Click Yes.
  • If the current drawing already contains a component or folder with the same name as the one you are localizing, the Rename dialog box is displayed to assist you resolve the conflict.
