4.0.2 - Arnold for Cinema4d

14 Dec 2021

C4DtoA 4.0.2 uses Arnold 7.0.0.1 and is a minor feature release bringing improvements to the Node Editor and Tx Manager and a number of bug fixes.

Note: Known issues in the legacy Arnold Shader Network Editor since Cinema 4D S24:

  • Drag & drop nodes to the node editor does not work as expected:
    • Drag & drop an Arnold Material to create a reference. A Cinema 4D Object Operator node is created instead of an Arnold Material reference node.
    • Drag & drop an object to create an object reference. A Cinema 4D Object Operator node is created instead of an Arnold object node.
    • Drag & drop a Vertex Map to create a Vertex Map shader. A Cinema 4D Object Operator node is created instead of an Arnold Vertex Map shader.
  • Ctrl + drag a shader in the node editor in S24 creates two copies instead of one. shift + drag and Shift + Alt + drag does not work.

Installation

  • Download the Arnold for Cinema4D plugin
  • Follow these installation instructions .

System Requirements

  • Cinema 4D

    • R21.026 and above
    • R23.008 and above
    • S24.111 and above
    • R25.010 and above
  • Windows 10 or later, with the Visual Studio 2019 redistributable.

  • Linux with at least glibc 2.17 and libstdc++ 4.8.5 (gcc 4.8.5). This is equivalent to RHEL/CentOS 7.

  • macOS 10.13 or later.

  • CPUs need to support the SSE4.1 instruction set. Apple Mac models with M series chip are supported under Rosetta 2 mode.

  • GPU rendering works on Windows and Linux only and requires an NVIDIA GPU of the Ampere, Turing, Volta, Pascal, or Maxwell architecture. We recommend using the 470.74 or higher drivers on Linux and 472.12 (Quadro), 472.12 (GeForce), or higher on Windows. See Arnold GPU for more information.

  • Optix™ denoiser requires an NVidia GPU with CUDA™ Compute Capability 5.0 and above.

Enhancements

  • Reference shader preview: Preview of the reference shader in the new Node Editor is now rendering properly. The reference shader is now also fully supported in the viewport. (C4DTOA-2569)
  • Port layer_rgba shader UI logic to the Node Editor: Following the logic from the shader network editor, a layer of the layer_rgba shader is now automatically enabled when the input is connected. (C4DTOA-2613)
  • Port image shader color space UI logic to the Node Editor: Following the logic from the shader network editor, color space of an image shader is automatically set to raw, if the shader is connected to a non-color input (e.g. normal map, specular roughness, etc.) (C4DTOA-2624)
  • Refresh button in the Tx Manager: The Refresh button is added back to the Tx Manager UI. (C4DTOA-2619)
  • Simpler selection and conversion in the Tx Manager: The Tx Manager has now a single Select button with a popup menu for the different options (e.g. select all, select untiled, etc.). A popup button is added next to the Create and Delete Tx buttons which allows converting specific textures (e.g. all, untiled, out-of-date, etc.) quickly. (C4DTOA-2620)
  • Default material preview scene in Preferences: The default material and shader preview scene can be set in the Preferences now. This is the preview rendered when creating a new material or shader in the Node Editor. The preview scene has to be located in the library/materialpreview application or user folder. (C4DTOA-2605)

Bug Fixes

  • C4DTOA-2445 - Graph nodes with multiple outputs trigger end node preview render
  • C4DTOA-2614 - LUT is not displayed in the Asset Manager
  • C4DTOA-2617 - LUT path is wrong if project is saved with assets
  • C4DTOA-2621 - Arnold Material preview render blocks the UI
  • C4DTOA-2623 - Crash in IPR when switching to OIDN imager
  • C4DTOA-2626 - Application is resized when switching to a layout which has the Arnold Shader Network Editor docked
  • C4DTOA-2632 - Crash when starting the IPR after switching scenes
  • C4DTOA-2633 - Occasional crashes when rendering Node Material preview
  • C4DTOA-2634 - Wrong Multi-Instance transform
  • C4DTOA-2635 - Crash in IPR when undo editing a shader
