To Export a Revit family using the BIM Definition RFA Export Command

Use the Informed Design service to export a loadable Revit family file (RFA) from Autodesk Inventor, containing model geometry, model orientation, connector definitions, and BIM definition data, to collaborate with Revit.

Preparation

An internet connection, and sign in with Autodesk ID are required to export RFAs using the Informed Design service.

Required: Use the BIM properties panel to add a Revit Family Name, and Family Type Name (A. See image below).

Optional: Set a specific model state as active for export (B. See image below).

RFA Export: Properties tab.

  1. (Optional) Edit the file name for the RFA. The Inventor file name is assigned by default
  2. (Optional) Select the desired Revit version year for the RFA. Note: Future Revit versions will be supported.
  3. The active model state is automatically selected for export.
  4. (Optional) Edit the destination (download) folder location for the RFA.
  5. (Optional) Check 'Show in file location when complete' for windows explorer to open at the specified destination folder location when the RFA export is complete.
  6. (Optional) Click 'Restore default properties' to undo any changes, and reset all inputs to the default.
  7. Click Export.
Note: Once the document data has been uploaded to the Informed Design service, control is returned, and additional exports can be prepared and queued. Use the History tab to monitor progress.

Known issue: Existing exports with the same file name and path will be overwitten without warning.

Known Issue: Activating an alternative model state fails to update the active model state in the Export RFA panel.

RFA Export: History tab

View the status of your RFA exports for the current model in the BIM properties, RFA Export panel, History tab.

  1. (Optional) Hover over the 'i' symbol to access the "Clear export history" command.
  2. (Optional) Sort the order of export history Newest first, or Oldest first.
  3. (Optional) Click on the ellipses (three dots '...') to a. Show the export log in it's folder location. b. Delete this export record.
