To Email Issues

Create a vCard before emailing issues, and assign them a status or a company.

To enable this functionality, you first save a vCard, which saves your project’s email address to your address book. When you send an email to this address on either your PC or mobile phone, it is added to the issue list.

  • Is there a size limit for the attachments? Yes, 6 MB.
  • Do I have to attach a file? No, you can send only an issue description in the body of the email.
  • Can I attach only photos? No, you can attach any file to the issue.
  • Can anyone email issues? Any registered BIM 360 Field user for that project can submit issues. If your issues are not appearing, make sure that you are not sending them from a personal email address on your phone.

Create a vCard Before Emailing Issues

Each project is assigned a unique email address to which registered users can email issues. The email generates issues within that project. Email attachments are automatically attached to the issues.

  1. Click Inbox. The project email address appears on the upper-right corner of the Inbox page.
  2. Click Add vCard To Your Address Book. You are prompted to save a vCard File.
  3. Open and save the vCard using your email client.

Create an Issue from a Mobile Device

Create an issue from any email-enabled device (including Blackberry, Android, and other phones) by sending a message to the project’s BIM 360 Field email address.

  1. Find the email address for your project and log in to the BIM 360 Field website.
  2. Click Inbox. The project email address is in the upper-right corner.
  3. Take a photo with your phone and attach it to an email.
  4. Describe the issue in the body of the email.
  5. Your issue appears in the View Issues list with a Draft status. Double-click the issue to edit it, for example, to change its status to Open.
Note: Issues are not shared with the assigned company (for example, the subcontractor) until you change the status to Open.

Assign Open Status to Emailed Issues

  1. Click Issues.
  2. Click the Search icon.
  3. In the Filter menu, choose Emailed Issues.
  4. Select the issues to change.
  5. Click Edit.
  6. From the Status menu, choose Open to allow sharing with an assigned company.

Assign Issues to Companies or Areas from Email Messages

Use a shortcut to assign a company and an area to an emailed issue. This shortcut saves time when you review issues in your inbox.

  • Type one or both of the following in the Subject line of your message:
    • The $ symbol followed by the name of the company. For example, type $coastal to assign an issue to a company named Coastal.
    • The @ symbol followed by the name of the area or room. For example, type $floor 01 to assign an issue to Floor 01.
