Set up HSM codes using canned text in Mastercam

Setting up HSM codes to be read from canned text in Mastercam.

To set up canned text in Mastercam

You can read HSM codes into TruePath from the canned text fields in Mastercam. However, before TruePath can read these options, you must set them up in Mastercam.

  1. Start Mastercam.

  2. In the ribbon, go to Machine > Mill > Default.

  3. In the Toolpaths Manager, expand the machine group by clicking the plus sign.

  4. Expand the properties by click the plus sign.

  5. Click Files.

  6. Click Replace.

  7. Select the machine definition for your machine.

  8. Click Open.

  9. Click the green check mark.

  10. In the ribbon, go to Machine > Machine Definition.

  11. Click the Edit control definition icon.

  12. Go to Text > Canned Text.

  13. Scroll down until you see a series of empty canned text entries.

  14. Double-click in the canned text columns of each empty row and enter the text for the HSM modes. Here is a screenshot of HSM modes starting at canned text entry 20.

  15. Record the canned text numbers used in the previous step. You will later map them in TruePath.

  16. Click the Save icon to save the control definition.

  17. Click the green check mark.

  18. Click the Save icon to save the machine definition.

  19. Click the green check mark.

  20. Click Yes.

    The canned text options in the Mastercam toolpaths now include the HSM modes when you use the edited machine definition. You can apply them like any other canned options.

To map HSM canned text to TruePath

  1. Start CAMplete TruePath.

  2. In the ribbon, go to Manage > Tools > Options.

  3. Click File Types.

  4. In the drop-down menu, select Mastercam.

  5. Click Advanced Properties.

  6. Click the Canned Text Settings tab.

  7. Scroll down to the canned text values. In this example, the canned text values are in rows 20 through 31.

  8. For each canned text value, use the drop-down menu in the Command Code column to map the High Speed Mode command.

  9. Use the drop-down menu at the bottom of the window to set the specific HSM mode for each canned text value.

  10. Repeat steps 8 and 9 for each canned text value.

  11. Click OK.

NCI files for Mastercam projects with canned text set for HSM modes should output the correct HSM code in TruePath. The location of the HSM code in the posted code is determined by the NC format.

For Matsuura machines, high speed codes are mapped as follows.

  • Parts Cutting Rough = G131 P1
  • Parts Cutting Medium = G131 P2
  • Parts Cutting Fine = G131 P3
  • Simultaneous 3Ax Cutting Rough = G131 M1
  • Simultaneous 3Ax Cutting Medium = G131 M2
  • Simultaneous 3Ax Cutting Fine = G131 M3
  • Simultaneous 5Ax Cutting Rough = G131 F1
  • Simultaneous 5Ax Cutting Medium = G131 F2
  • Simultaneous 5Ax Cutting Fine = G131 F3
  • Drill/Tap = G131 D1

For Haas machines, high speed codes are mapped as follows.

  • Parts Cutting Rough = G187 P1
  • Parts Cutting Medium = G187 P2
  • Parts Cutting Fine = G187 P3

For all other machines, the high speed codes are controlled by the NC Format.

To cache canned text (NCI)

  1. Click File Types.

  2. In the drop-down menu, select Mastercam.

  3. In the Additional Options grid, click NCI – Cache Canned Text Items.

  4. Below the Additional Options grid, click the check box to enable the preference.

  5. Click Close to close the User Preferences dialog.

  6. Close CAMplete TruePath.
