Installing the Geotechnical Modeler
Prerequisites
- Autodesk® Civil 3D® < release year >
- Spreadsheet Editor
- Recommended: Microsoft Excel
- Text Editor
- Recommended: Notepad++
Installing the Extension
- Download the latest Geotechnical Modeler Microsoft installer (MSI) file.
- Close all Autodesk software.
- Run the GeotechnicalModeler_< release year >.msi installation file. The installer will copy any required files, templates, and database folders to the appropriate locations.
- Once the installation has finished close out of the installer wizard.
- Open Civil 3D < release year >.
The first time Civil 3D is opened after installation of the tool the InfoCenter should display a notification balloon to alert you that: “Geotechnical Modeler has been added to Civil 3D”. Notes: To confirm installation files have been copied to the correct folder, you may look for the C3D-GeoTechModeler-< release year > folder in the Windows Program Data directory located here: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\
Starting the Extension
Once the Geotechnical Modeler installation is complete, you may run the tool from the newly installed ribbon tab.
You can also access the Geotechnical Modeler tools, commands, and dialog boxes by using the command line. To get started, enter the command GM_ManageData to create a new project and import data.
Troubleshooting Installation or Startup Errors
If the installer fails or the tool fails to start, make sure to fully uninstall any previous versions of the Geotechnical Modeler.
You can manually uninstall the Geotechnical Modeler by deleting the C3DGeoTechModeler-< release year > add-on folder located here:
C:\ProgramFiles\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\C3D-GeoTechModeler< release year >.bundle
The supporting files can be uninstalled by deleting the Lithologic Patterns and Template Drawing folders located here:
C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\C3D-GeoTechModeler< release year >\StyleTemplateDrawing
C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\C3D-GeoTechModeler-< release year >\LithologicPatterns
You may also choose to uninstall and delete the local project database used by the Geotechnical Modeler. Delete the project database folder located here: C:\ProgramData \Autodesk\C3D-GeoTechModeler-< release year >\Database If the Geotechnical Modeler commands are not recognized by Civil 3D, confirm that the installation files are in the correct location:
You should see the folder GeoTechModeler-< release year > located here: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk
Additionally, you should see the folder C3D-GeoTechModeler-< release year >.bundle located here: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins
