Use the Infrastructure Parts Editor to customize drainage structure or piping part families and part assemblies, then publish them to catalogs that are compatible with Autodesk InfraWorks and Autodesk Civil 3D.
Overview
The Infrastructure Parts Editor is a parametric shape editing tool for creating parts catalogs that are compatible with Autodesk InfraWorks and Autodesk Civil 3D. Once you install the Parts Editor , you can
open the Parts Editor by clicking the Parts Editor icon from within Autodesk InfraWorks or Autodesk Civil 3D. Users who have experience with Autodesk Inventor and shape modeling can also create custom parametric component parts and assemblies with the
Infrastructure Parts Shape Utilities tools for Autodesk Inventor, which can then be used by the Parts Editor.
Note: Parametric bridge and road components are not supported by the Parts Editor. Instead, you can add parametric bridge components and road decorations to the Style Palette.
Parts Catalogs and Libraries
Infrastructure Parts Editor organizes parametric content by the Drainage Structures and Piping domains. Within each Domain, parametric parts and assemblies are stored in part Catalogs.

There are several ways to review, modify, and publish part families and assemblies:
- You can work with a default library of drainage structure and piping catalogs, in Metric or Imperial units.
- You can open and modify a parts catalog that is associated with a specific Autodesk InfraWorks model.
- You can open a part catalog file from your local system in .ICBT format.
- You can add new parametric parts to your library using .IPT parametric shape template files that were created with the Infrastructure Part Shape Utilties tools for Autodesk Inventor.
When you are have finished an assembly in the Parts Editor, you can save your final catalogs in the My Parts library, and publish your final catalogs to Autodesk InfraWorks and/or Autodesk Civil 3D.
Drainage Structures
Drainage Structures are organized by Assembly and Structure in the Navigation Panel of the Parts Editor.

Each type of part assembly is composed of multiple parts families and multiple part size variations.
Inlet and Access Structures: An assembly class made up of inlets and manholes. An inlet and access structure assembles an inlet frame with an underlying catch basin structure and a cover or grate. Surface Structure parts are the Inlet or Inlet Frame base parts for Inlet and Access Structure assemblies. The sizes defined for the Surface Structure part families are the sizes that you see in the assembly. Each part size is matched to the appropriately sized Underground Structure (also known as a catch basin) and a Cover or Grate(also known as a manhole).

Piping
For Piping catalogs in the Parts Editor, there are many types of piping assemblies that can be created using piping parts families. For example, you can create a Fittings assembly from Adapter, Cap, Coupling, Cross, Elbow, Plug, Reducer, Lateral, Tee, and Wye part families, or you could create a Valves and Operators assembly using Hydrant, Valve, Valve Actuator, and Valve Body part families, as shown in the image below.
