To Create Pond References

Create a reference to an existing pond in a data shortcut.

A pond reference is a lightweight, read-only copy of an original dataset. This copy grants other objects access to the pond data. The pond must exist within the current project collection, visible on the Toolspace Prospector tab, before pond reference creation.

To create a reference to a pond data shortcut

  1. In Toolspace, on the Prospector tab, ensure that the correct working folder is identified on the Data Shortcuts node.

  2. Expand the Data Shortcuts > Ponds collection.

  3. Right-click the desired pond, and then click Create Reference.

The Create Pond Reference dialog box is displayed, in which you can optionally change the properties of the reference pond, as described in the following steps.

  4. Enter a Name for the pond.

  5. Enter a Description for the pond.

  6. Select a layer.

Note: If you do not select a layer, the pond is placed on the current layer.
  7. Click OK to create the pond reference.

  8. The pond name is displayed under the Ponds collection in the Prospector tree with an icon next to it.
