Model Linking in Autodesk Collaboration for Civil 3D

In BIM Collaborate Pro, Civil 3D project teams have flexibility in how they allow their models to be referenced by others using Collaboration for Civil 3D. There are several methods available:

Controlled Sharing - Low Trust Environment

Using this workflow, teams have no access to each others work-in-progress models, which are stored in the respective team folders. Each team can share packages containing their models when ready, and other teams can choose to consume them. XREFs can then be used to link to these consumed models in their own Consumed folder.

Each team uses an independent Data Shortcut working folder, and DREFs can be used to link to other teams' Civil objects from consumed packages. Teams can also control which version they consume.

Controlled Sharing - Medium Trust Environment

Using this workflow, teams have no access to each others work-in-progress models, which are stored in the respective team folders. Each team can share packages containing their models when ready. XREFs can then be used to link to other teams models directly in the Shared folder.

Each team uses an independent Data Shortcut working folder, and DREFs can be used to link to other teams' Civil objects in the Shared folder.

Uncontrolled Sharing - High Trust Environment

In this workflow, teams have access to each others work-in-progress models. XREFs can be used to link to other teams' models directly in their team folder.

Each team uses an independent Data Shortcut working folder, and DREFs can be used to link to other teams' Civil objects directly in their team folder.

The View level permission in Docs can be applied to team folders, to prevent teams from editing each others models.
