SolidWorks Connector - Manage Data Exchanges

This topic details how you can manage the Data Exchanges after you have created or loaded them using the SolidWorks Connector.

Delete a Data Exchange

You can delete the Data Exchanges that you created from your SolidWorks Connector interface.

  1. Click Data Exchange under the Data Exchange tab.

  2. Select the Data Exchange that you want to delete from the connector interface.

  3. Click the More menu and click Delete from the drop-down list.

  4. Click Yes to delete the Data Exchange.

View a Data Exchange in a Web browser

This section explains how to view a selected Data Exchange from the loaded exchanges list on Autodesk Docs. When you select an exchange for viewing, you will be redirected to Autodesk Docs and the exchange will be displayed in a new web browser window.

  1. Select the relevant Data Exchange in the Data Exchange Connector interface.

  2. Click the More menu and click View on Web from the drop-down list.

  3. A new browser window will open where you can view the Data Exchange in Autodesk Docs.

Create Metadata in Exchanges

This section explains how to create or add metadata to exchanges.

  1. Open an assembly in SolidWorks.

  2. Select and open any component from the assembly.

  3. Open the Properties window and go to Custom Properties.

  4. Add desired properties to the component.

Load Metadata from Exchanges

This section explains how to load metadata from exchanges.

  1. Load an exchange by following the steps given in Load and Unload Data Exchanges

  2. Data exchange settings UI will appear, which will allow you to select desired properties to load from the exchange.

  4. Open the component and go to the Properties window. This will display all the properties of the loaded exchange.

Create an Exchange containing Primitive Geometry

This section explains how to create an exchange which contains primitive geometry.

  1. In SolidWorks, create or open an assembly or part which contains primitive geometry (points, lines, polylines, circles, ellipses, and arcs).

Select Elements of a Data Exchange

You can select the components from your data exchange using this feature. This will help you to identify the elements from a specific exchange in your SolidWorks file.

  1. Select the Data Exchange from the connector interface list.

  2. Click the More menu and click Select Elements from the drop-down list.

  3. The elements belonging to the selected Data Exchange will be highlighted.
