Manage Exchange

This topic details how you can manage the exchanges after you have created or loaded them using the Autodesk Data Exchange Connector for Inventor.

Delete an Exchange

You can delete the exchanges that you created from the connector interface.

  1. Click Data Exchange under the Collaborate tab.

  2. Select the exchange that you want to delete from the connector interface.

  3. Click the More menu and click Delete from the drop-down list.

  4. Click Yes.

View an Exchange on the Web

This section explains how to view a selected exchange from the loaded exchanges list on Autodesk Docs. When you select an exchange for viewing, you will be redirected to Autodesk Docs and the exchange will be displayed on a new web browser window.

  1. Select the relevant exchange in the connector interface.

  2. Click the More menu and click View on web from the drop-down list. A new browser window will open where you can view the exchange in Autodesk Docs.

Create an Exchange with Metadata

This section explains how to create or add metadata to exchanges.

  1. Create or open an assembly or part in Inventor.

  2. Select the component of the assembly or part and choose iProperties option.

  3. Add desired properties to the component. Note: You can add properties in all tabs available in the iProperties window.

  4. Click apply.

  5. Then create the exchange by following the steps mentioned in Create and Update Exchanges

Load an Exchange with Metadata

This section explains how to load metadata from exchanges.

  1. Load an exchange by following the steps given in Load and Unload Exchanges.

  2. All the properties of an exchange can be found in the components iProperties section.

  3. To see the metadata, select the component and choose iProperties.

  4. Click apply.

  5. This will display all the properties of the loaded exchange.

Create an Exchange containing Primitive Geometry

This section explains how to create an exchange which contains primitive geometry.

  1. In Inventor, create or open an assembly or part which contains only primitive geometry (points, lines, polylines, circles, ellipses, and arcs).

    Note: If an assembly or part contains both Primitive and BREP geometry, you will not be able to create the exchange.

  2. Create an exchange by following the steps given in Create and Update Exchanges.

Load the Exchange containing Primitive Geometry

This section explains how to load an exchange containing primitive geometry.

  1. Load an exchange containing only primitive geometry (points, lines, polylines, circles, ellipses, and arcs) by following the steps given in Load and Unload Exchanges.

    Note: If an assembly or part contains both Primitive and BRep geometry, you will not be able to load the exchange.

Select Elements of an Exchange

You can select the components from your exchange using this feature. This will help you to identify the elements from a specific exchange in your Inventor file.

  1. Select an exchange from the connector interface.

  2. Click the More menu and click Select elements from the drop-down list.

  3. The elements belonging to the selected exchange will be highlighted.
