Share Folders
You can now privately share folders with individual people, instead of being forced to share your whole Drive, or copy a link that publicly shares your file.
Just click the "Share" button on any top-level folder in your Drive.
Adding users
You can add users to a folder by clicking the "Share" button, then selecting what permissions level they should have:
Controlling Permissions
You can control what other people can (and can't) do in your shared folders.
When you share a folder, choose one of these permission levels:
- Can View & Download: can view & download the folder, but cannot modify or share.
- Can Edit: can read & edit this folder. They can also share it with others, or delete it.
You can also modify the role of someone who you've already added to this folder. Click the role next to their name (see image above), then choose a new one:
Desktop Connector
Private Folder Sharing is also supported in the Desktop Connector application for Windows. Learn More.
Changes to legacy sharing
We are adding a new sharing feature and removing an old one.
What is changing?
- Adding: you can now share a folder privately, with specific Autodesk Drive users of your choosing. Nobody else can access that folder.
- Removing: legacy Drive sharing. Drive had a feature that allowed you to grant full co-ownership (read, write, delete access) to your Autodesk Drive. You couldn't limit their actions or control what they see.
How will this change affect me?
If you use the legacy Drive Sharing feature, here's what will happen after Private Folder Sharing is available:
- Your full-Drive collaborators will be removed. If you want to keep sharing your Drive, you'll need to re-share individual folders through the new private folder sharing feature.
- Your access to other Drives will be removed. If you currently access someone else's Drive, please contact them – they'll need to add you to these folders with the new sharing feature.
What should I do about it?
If you don't use the legacy Drive Sharing feature, you don't need to do anything. This new sharing feature will simply appear in your Drive!
If you do use Drive sharing:
Verify: who has shared with you?
Open the "Shared with Me" tab:
Decide: do you still need to see/edit the content of these Drives? If yes:
- Contact each person
- Ask them to share folders with you, using the new private folder sharing feature.
See who can access your Drive:
Click the "Info" icon on the right side of your Drive.
In the popup menu, click the list of collaborators.
If you only see yourself (or if you can't see this list at all), you are not sharing your Drive.
Anyone else in this list is a "collaborator" -- someone who can access your Drive.
Please note these users in a document or an email.
- Decide: which of these users should continue to have access?
For each of these users: share your folders with them, using the new sharing feature.
But now you can control which folders they see, and what they can do!
