Use the Holder Data dialog to view, or change, information about a machine's tool holders to control how they are displayed during Full Machine Simulation. PartMaker stores the holders you define using this dialog in the current Machine Data File (.mchdat) file.
To display this dialog, click the Holder Data button on the Machine Data dialog or the Tool Assembly dialog.
The following settings are available:
Milling Holder — Select this option if you are using a milling tool holder. This option is available only if you have Vertical Mill-Turn selected in the Machine Type list on the Machine Data dialog.
Turning Holder — Select this option if you are using a turning tool holder. This option is available only if you have Vertical Mill-Turn selected in the Machine Type list on the Machine Data dialog.
List of Holders — This area of the dialog lists the available holders. Details of the selected holder are displayed on the dialog.
Attachment Point and Direction (Holder to Tool Head)
- Holder Attachment Point (X, Y, Z) — Use these fields to define a point where the holder attaches to the tool head.
- The direction fields are available only when using a solid model to define a holder.
- Direction — Select a direction axis, defined with respect to the Holder Coordinate System, which originates at the Holder to Tool Head Attachment Point.
Set Attachment Point — Click to display the Attachment Information dialog, where you can specify the coordinates for the Attachment Point by clicking directly on the solid model. This button is available only if Solid Model is selected in the Holder Definition area of the dialog.
Attachment Point and Direction (Holder to Tool)
- Holder Attachment Point (X, Y, Z) — Use these fields to define a point where the holder attaches to the tool.
The direction fields are available only when using a solid model to define a holder.
- Direction — Select the axis to which the tool aligns its shank before attaching to the tool. This axis is defined in the Holder Coordinate System.
Set Attachment Point — Click to display the Attachment Information dialog, where you can specify coordinates for the Attachment Point by clicking directly on the solid model. This button is available only if Solid Model is selected in the Holder Definition area of the dialog.
Holder Definition — Select how you want to define the holder for the machine:
- Solid Model — Select this option to use a solid model to represent the holder. Click Model Data to select the model file you want to use from the Model Data dialog.
- DXF — Select this option to use a .dxf file to represent the holder. Click Browse to select the .dxf file you want to use from the Select DXF File dialog.
- Parametric — Select this option to create a parametric representation of the holder from the values specified in the Height and Diameter fields.
Tool Extension Length — This is the length of the turning tool's shank that extends into the specified holder. This field is available only if you have Turning Holder selected.
Notes — Enter any additional information about the holder in this field.
New — Click to add a new holder by creating a copy of the holder that is selected in the List of Holders list box.
Delete — Click to delete the selected holder.
Holder Preview — Click to display a 3D preview of the holder data.
OK — Click to save any changes and close the dialog.
Cancel — Click to discard any changes and close the dialog.
