Single Hole
Use this icon to create a single hole. This icon is available in the following PartMaker Faces:
- Mill XY Plane
- Mill 5 Axis Plane
- Mill ZY Plane
- Mill ZX Plane
- Mill End, Index
- Mill Diam, Index
When you select the Single Hole icon, the cursor changes to reflect the snap mode that is selected. Snap modes provide different ways for you to specify the location of a single hole within the Face window. To change the snap mode that is selected, use the snap mode icons displayed beneath the CAM window toolbar at the top of the PartMaker Face window.
Specifying single holes
When you have selected the Single Hole icon, you can specify a single hole location by:
- Entering X, Y coordinates.
- Entering polar coordinates.
- Clicking a grid location.
- Clicking a cursor location.
Specifying a single hole using existing geometry
When geometry exists, for example in an imported .dxf file, you can specify a single hole location by:
- Clicking a point on an existing circle.
- Clicking an existing circle.
- Clicking the closest intersection of geometric elements.
- Clicking the end of an existing line or arc.
- Click the middle of an existing line or arc.

Specifying a hole location using X, Y coordinates
To specify a hole location using X, Y coordinates:
- After selecting the Single Hole icon, select the XY Coordinates snap mode
.
- At the bottom of the window, enter the X coordinate of the first hole location in the space provided, then press the Tab key.
- Enter the Y coordinate of the first hole location, then press the
Enter key.
The hole appears in the main area of the Face window at the specified location.
Specifying a hole using polar coordinates
- After selecting the Single Hole icon, select the RA (Radius, Angle) snap mode
.
- At the bottom of the window, enter the radius of the first hole in the space provided, then press the TAB key.
- Enter the angle of the first hole location, then press the
Enter key.
The hole appears in the main area of the face window at the specified location.
Specifying a hole using a point on a circle
The Point on Circle snap mode is available when you are working with geometry containing existing arcs or circles (for example, geometry from an imported .dxf file).
- After selecting the Single Hole icon, select the Point on Circle snap mode
.
- At the bottom of the window, enter the angle for the first hole in the space provided.
- Click the existing arc or circle to create the new hole at the specified angle.
Specifying a hole using the cursor location
- After selecting the Single Hole icon, select the Screen snap mode
.
- As you move the cursor in the main area of the window, its current position is displayed at the bottom of the window using X, Y coordinates.
- Click to select the location where you want to create the hole.
Specifying a hole using a grid location
- After selecting the Single Hole icon, select the Grid snap mode
.
- As you move the cursor in the main area of the window, its current grid position is displayed at the bottom of the window using X, Y coordinates.
- Click to select the location where you want to create the hole
Specifying a hole using a circle center location
The Circle Center snap mode is available when you are working with geometry containing existing arcs or circles (for example, geometry from an imported .dxf file).
- After selecting the Single Hole icon, select the Circle Center snap mode
.
- Click an existing arc or circle. PartMaker creates a new hole and places it in the center of the existing arc or circle.
Specifying a hole using the closest intersection
The Closest Intersection snap mode is available when you are working with existing geometric elements (for example, from an imported .dxf file).
- After selecting the Single Hole icon, click the Closest Intersection snap mode
.
- Click the closest intersection of existing geometric elements: lines or circular arcs. PartMaker creates a new hole and places it at the closest intersection of existing geometric elements.
Specifying a hole using the end of an element
The End of Element snap mode is available when you are working with an imported .dxf file containing existing lines or arcs.
- After selecting the Single Hole icon, select the End of Element snap mode
.
- Click a line or arc. PartMaker creates a new hole at the end point of the line or arc.
Specifying a hole using the middle of an element
- After selecting the Single Hole icon, select the Middle of Element snap mode
.
- Click a line or arc. PartMaker creates a new hole at the mid-point of the line or arc.
