Layers are useful for organizing the different elements in your part document.
Layers are useful for controlling the view. If your layers are well organized, you can turn the display of different layers on and off.
There are multiple types of layers. The icons in the
Part View show you the layer type.
System layer — You cannot edit a System layer, but you can show or hide it.
User layer — Add your own layers to organize your work.
Current layer — New items are added to the current layer. You cannot hide the current layer.
Use the Layers dialog to manage layers.
To open the Layers dialog
Right-click Layers in the Part View and select Layers.
To create a new layer
In the Layers dialog, click New, enter a name for the new layer, and click OK.
To set the current layer
When you create a new element, it is created on the current layer.
To set the current layer, select a layer in the Current Layer list in the Layers dialog.
To show or hide a layer
- Open the Layers dialog.
- Select or deselect the checkbox next to a layer name.
- Click Preview to update the Graphics window with your changes.
- Click OK.
To move an item to a different layer
- Right-click an item in the Part View or Graphics window and select Change Layer.
- Select the layer you want to move the item to in the Change Layer dialog.
- Click OK.
